Quality
GDAHA and its member hospitals developed the
Quality of Care Initiative as a ground-breaking
collaborative that includes competitive healthcare systems
and the Dayton business community. The Ohio Hospital Association
and Applied Health Services have been key partners.
Beginning more than ten years ago, the Quality of Care
Initiative reviewed mortality, length of stay, and process of care
for key quality areas such as heart attack and stroke. Once areas
of improvement were identified, the community adopted best
practices and tracked successes. The process and specific
improvement in mortality rate for patients with acute myocardial
infarction (AMI) earned GDAHA national recognition with The Joint
Commission's prestigious Ernest A. Codman Award in
2002. Following that success, the process was replicated
throughout Ohio.
Since that time, GDAHA member hospitals have upheld the
commitment to quality and continue to advance member hospitals'
goals to improve the quality of care provided to patients in the
region. State and national resources now exist to provide detailed
information about a variety of quality indicators.
