The Proposed Closing of Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare - Overview
On January 31, 2008 Ohio Governor Ted Strickland announced sweeping budget cuts to save the state $733 million. Among the cuts is Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare, the state-run psychiatric hospital located in East Dayton. Closing the hospital will save the state approximately $15 million annually.
The Greater Dayton Area Hospital Association is working with the community to save the region's only psychiatric hospital. Losing the facility will create a void in the Dayton Region which will lead to long term effects on the quality of care for the patients, the patients' families, Wright State University's psychology and psychiatry programs, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the regional hospitals. Working together, we hope to prevent the facility's closing and keep this valuable community resource.
